Great food, exceptional service! We stopped for lunch on our drive back to CA. The salsa was fresh and quite superior to most others I've tried. They also served this great bean dip with the chips. My entree was the burrito relleno and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I went with 6 others and every entree that we ordered was fresh and flavorful! The food itself deserves 5 stars, but I would award a 6th star if I could for the service! The person waiting on us was warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome. But what impressed me more was this - we were parked past a traffic light from the restaurant and I left the car keys behind. By the time I realized and started walking back to the car, our waitress was already crossing the road to hand us our keys! This was clearly going above and beyond expected service! Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area! If I ever find myself in Grants Pass again I'll be sure to stop by for another satisfying meal!

When I go to a Mexican food restaurant, I like to try their version of chicken tortilla soup. Their tortilla soup was really good! Clear broth base with loads of tender chicken, cheese, onions and tortilla strips. The cup serving is enough for a meal. My husband tried the pork fajitas. Also good. Service was excellent!.

Again, star ratings are relative: is this place superb, good, or only average for the prices it charges, the area it's in, and the audience it tries to serve? A three star taco joint in San Francisco might well deserve five stars in Kamloops, British Columbia. Nothing against BC of course. That said, Taqueria Mexico is a solid four star, especially for the area. The menu is really extensive, with a welcome section of Michoacan seafood entrees. Ceviche de camarones with tomatoes, avocado, and cucumber was the right way to end a hot day when I craved something cool and light. Really nice decor, esp. the wall-sized mural of the pre Columbian Aztec capital. Only criticisms: No horchada on the menu, and worse than mediocre cheese nachos. Total for four persons, before tip: $67.

My wife and I ate here on 6/2/15. This is not our first time at Taquira Mexico. We usually order the Chile Rellano Burrito which is outstanding and large enough for us to share. This time we wanted something light so we both ordered a Taco Salad. What a mistake. The lettuce was still drenched with water and there was little else. I had to dig to the bottom of the taco shell bowl to find a very slight amount of ground beef which was soaked in water from the salad, (ever here of a lettuce spinner?) there was a very small amount of shredded white and possibly cheddar cheese which was almost white due to the extremely wet lettuce. I picked up the taco shell and it was so wet the bottom fell out. Except for a very small amount of cheese and ground beef we were served a large bowl of wet lettuce. This was the most terrible excuse for a taco salad I have ever seen. And at a price of $10.95 what a rip off! P.S. My wife's taco "salad" was as bad as mine was. July 1 2015. Tonight we are going to El Patron. Mucho Better!

Decent sized family style Mexican Restaurant. I was within walking distance and they are right next to a music venue. Huge portions. Good food and very attentive waitresses. I had a Chicken Burrito and that in itself was very filling. They had chips and salsa on the table as well.

Lupita tu es muy bien. Gracias, it was a wonderful evening and delicious meal. A gracious waitress and the food was delicious. The margaritas were yummy.

Taqueria Mexico is your classic small town Mexican eatery, which is to say it's a reliable place to get a taste of something from south of the border in your own backyard. My family and I were passing through picturesque Grants Pass on the way home from vacation and needed sustenance and a pee break. Not many places were open on Labor Day, so we chose Taqueria Mexico because it was close and convenient. The paintings on the wall and faux brick decor were sort of gaudy, but I found that only added to the charm. Our meals were huge and equally over the top - each plate could have served two easily and came smothered in sauces and cheeses, bubbling hot out of the oven. I won't say it was the best meal I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant, but the affordable and generous portions combined with the charm of small town servers who were extra attentive made it an experience worth repeating. Viva Taqueria Mexico!

So we're in Grants Pass and trying to decide on where to eat. Brought up Yelp which sort of helped, but it seems not many of the locals post because we had a hard time finding a place with recent reviews. Finally decided on Mexican, and after skipping the first place due to lack of indoor seating, we came upon this place. So glad we did...! First off, the menu is a veritable smorgasbord of choices. From veggie to fish to poultry and beef, the variety seemed endless. I went for the pure and simple carne asada while hubby picked shrimp fajitas. Washed that down with a not-for-the-designated-driver sangria, and we were good to go. My steak was tender, the plate piled high with beans, rice, pickled veggies and diced tomatoes with guacamole. Hubby had a bounty of sizzling, well-seasoned shrimp along with all the fixings. Guacamole was creamy, and the salsa rich and flavorful. I judge rice based on how my Tía (aunt) used to make it, so I give theirs a 6/10; points off for carrots and a few uncooked/crunchy grains but otherwise not bad. I cannot gush enough about the service. It was as though we had four servers. Orders, drinks, meals, bill, everything was brisk and readily delivered. Everyone seemed to really enjoy what they were doing, and they called every guest "amigo." Can't wait to return on a future trip to the area to try some more of their menu...!

This place is great.. While on vacation in Grants Pass we decided on this place for dinner and what a pleasant dinner we had! Prices were cheaper than what we're use to, staff was very friendly, and food was DELICUOUS!!

We both enjoyed the food very much. The service left much to be desired. To be fair, our server was also the bartender and phone answerer. They also had a large birthday party going on. The margaritas made the wait much easier ;-)

Delicious food!!! I was visiting from LA and this place is awesome the servers are warm welcoming and showed great hospitality. I noticed a lot of people wrote that it was pricy and I actually thought the opposite I was surprized at how inexpensive this resturaut was. but i gues its all relative.... I live in LA where youll be lucky if you can get a salad for under $18 so the fact that they had such yummy antres for around $8- 10 was awesome!!!! if you want cheap crappy food go to the dairy queen and enjoy but if you want good food and a good experience for a more than fair price go here.

I've never experienced fresher ingredients at a Mexican restaurant. My typical complaint at most Mexican restaurants is that everything is always over cook. Well that certainly isn't the case here. We started off with margaritas and they were good. Not overly sour which is often the case. They brought out chips and salsa again very good. I enjoyed the salsa but there was something different about the bean dip. This would be a great hint as to what was to be a great meal. This bean dip was so very fresh and I've NEVER noticed that at any of the 100's if Mexican restaurants I've eaten at. I ordered the drunken chicken and opted to go with the standard rice and beans as my sides. My wife ordered the same but asked for a small salad rather than the rice and beans. We both knew this would end up being a small pile of shredded lettuce with a few diced up pieces of tomato. See she has his substitute often. Well let me say when they brought out our meals the first thing that stood out was the absolutely gorgeous salad on her plate. Great portion size beaming with bright volts of all the assorted fresh veggies. What a great surprise. While loading my flower tortilla with this perfectly cooked chicken, which had obviously never saw the inside of a pot or skillet until my order was placed, I was loving the crisp beautiful and yes again FRESH peppers, onions etc. I'll sum it up plain and simple this was absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever been served on a restaurant. I was raised eating at many a Latinos home and although the food here wasn't as authentic as the home style it was still the best ever from an establishment.

Very friendly service and we arrived 10 minutes before closing and they never made us feel it. Classic, family style Mexican food with solid margaritas. The huge margaritas they delivered were actually their mediums. Very nice! We'll definitely stop here on our next trip through.

Chile relleno... freaking good. I never tried it until I had it at Taqueria Mexico. My whole body was doing the cha, cha, cha, baby after I took a bite of it. Melted cheese inside a cooked chile that is covered with eggs = perfecto. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because it was so empty. I went here with my rideshare buddy around noon expecting at least few occupied seats. But we were the only customers at a place that could easily fit over 100. I began to regret the choice to try at this place but all that doubt dissolved with the first bite. Bottomline is this: try it because you might like it. If you don't then too bad.

I live in San Diego, but have never found Carne Asada this good. Every time I am in town, this is where I eat, several times. Best Carne Asada ever!!!!

This used to be my favorite food EVER, but then for some unknown reason Manuel ( owner ) pulled out the manager and replaced him. Since then the tables are more and more empty and it is really sad. They had a great staff, wonderful cooks, good margaritas and now the food portions are skimpy, the staff is not happy and I don't know what they did to my cooks- but now it isn't worth stopping in. Try Tacos Locos instead.

Let me start off by saying that I live in Los Angeles where there is an abundant supply of great Mexican restaurants. That being said, let me also say that I have a second home in Grants Pass and Taqueria Mexico is an awesome restaurant! This place is easy to miss because it doesn't really stand out when you're driving through town, but what a great find it is. For the past 20 years or so, my family has been going to my other favorite Mexican restaurant in Grants Pass, which is El Paraiso, but in the past year, we wondered if there was somewhere else in Grants Pass that we could go to for a little variety in great Mexican food. Well, we found it. One thing I've learned over the years is that any restaurant, no matter what type of food they serve, is only as good as the cook(s) in the kitchen, so let me also say that my new discovery in 2009 (Taqueria Mexico) absolutely rocks! I love this place, and my family of six wants to go there every time we're in town. Hands down the best Mexican food in Grants Pass (with El Paraiso coming in a close second, and with the manager at El Paraiso really going out of his way to make us feel welcome every time we visit, which is a level of service that is above and beyond Taqueria Mexico). So there it is. This is a great place and I highly recommend it! Eat there and you won't be disappointed.

This is the best Mexican food in town. You'll be greeted with a Spanglish greeting, chips, salsa, and water. What more could you ask for? Oh... I know what more you could ask for... A margarita. They do them right too! They do things right here. Good food, friendly service, cheesy decor, and tooth picks at the door. I always stop here when I'm in town.

    1. My husband gets ho-hum over Mexican Food, but this was so good he would stop in Grants Pass every trip. 2. My dinner was great - a number 17 or the like with a side of guacamole and a Margarita. 3. Hubby & a friend ordered Chicken with onions & peppers. However, my husband ask the kitchen to HOLD the chicken and add carnitas. They were agreeable, even though not on menu. 4. The food put my guy in a great mood and we and our friends went through two pitchers of superb margaritas. The atmosphere is pleasant and we all had a good time. 5. Our waiter was very entertaining and accommodating. Great service.

Thanks fellow Yelpers for leading us to this gem. We all ordered something different, and each enjoyed everything on our plates - though there was no way either of us could finish. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. We will definitely return on our next visit to Grants Pass.

One of my favorite places to eat in Grants Pass. I am hooked on a item not seen on the menu, it was a special meal one night and they have been making it for me ever since. I can't tell you what the name is but I refer to it as ground and ocean because surf and turf means nothing to them. A translation thing I think. It is carne asada and a garlic sauté shrimp combo thus being the surf and turf or ground and sea or ocean. I'm not sure if they charge me the same price each time but it doesn't matter to me because it's taste so good. If we all start asking for it then maybe they will add it to their everyday menu. Everything we have ordered has been really good with no complaints. Service has always been great but since we are there about twice a month they all know us there and treat us as family. (Small town stuff, you gotta luv it) Stop by and try it, you won't be disappointed. If I had any complaints it would be that the bathrooms need some work and they should get rid of the carpets in the place and go with tile or something that will clean better.

Mexican food is a favorite of ours, and while it's okay at Taq Mex, the service on the two occasions we ate there was grudgingly given. One night, they'd run out of margarita glasses, and served them up in wine carafes with a straw! The interior is Tiajuana Tacky, and the margaritas a little watery but well-blessed with tequila. We had flautas and found the too little beef inside one, although they were tasty and well-accompanied. The guacamole was good enough to be made-to-order, the chips crisp and warm, but the lettuce limp and the rice a bit sticky.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
